Led by Director Jill Bixler, the Olentangy Liberty High School orchestra program offers a premier musical experience for student string players in the Powell community. Bixler, an accomplished performing violinist, brings a wealth of expertise to the podium, holding a Bachelor’s degree in Music Education from Florida State University and a Master’s in Music Education from The University of Toledo. Under her dedicated leadership, the orchestra program focuses on far more than just technical proficiency; it emphasizes teamwork, leadership, and aesthetic expression, creating an inclusive environment where students can find a sense of belonging within the larger high school population.

The program offers varied levels of string ensembles, accommodating both developing musicians and highly advanced players through regular orchestra courses and the audition-only Chamber Orchestra. The Olentangy Liberty Chamber Orchestra is particularly noted for its high-level performances, including appearances at the prestigious Ohio Music Education Association (OMEA) Professional Development Conference. Through rigorous rehearsals and a diverse repertoire—ranging from classical staples by Tchaikovsky to modern choral-turned-string arrangements like Eric Whitacre's "October"—the Olentangy Liberty orchestra program continuously challenges its students, resulting in moving performances that showcase the immense talent and dedication of the school's string musicians.
